Day 5 of filming -Sunday 12th December
On this day, we shot scenes 8B,8C and 12 in the music department in our school. We had to get permission from the head of the music department to confirm if it was okay if we used the room with the piano inside. 8B and 8C were shot in a similar camera angle. For scene 12, we changed the angle to a close up of her fingers on the piano. There were no major problems that occurred apart from the spacing however we had to continue shooting as it was the closest place we could find that looked as if the piano was in someone’s house

Filming Day 3-(25/11/11)
Today we shat scenes- 4B 2A and 2B
We shot 4B on Wembley high road where we encounter many difficulties, pedestrians would continually look directly at the camera which would take away the natural authentic feel of the video, they would also walk directly in front of the camera in the middle of the shot. Also it was very windy causing the artist hair to fly in her face causing he to be unable to sing in time to the music.
Our original idea for the shot was to keep the camera in a fixed position and pan whilst she walks, however we are unable to do this because of pedestrians walking in front of the camera so we had to improvise and track with the artist which was difficult as we had to try and keep the camera steady to get the best possible shot.
2A and 2B were shot at a friend’s house, so it was in our best interest to finish the scene as quickly and efficiently as possible as out equipment was causing an incontinence to some other residents.
The problems encountered when filing these scenes;
- Our original plan was to have the artist writhing the lyric’s in time with the music onto the mirror however there was a timing issue where the music speed and the handwriting speed of our artist did not match. Therefore we improvised and wrote the lyrics onto the mirror first and had the artist sing along .
- Another problem was that we under anticipated how easy it was to write in lipstick and so in our first few attempts the writing was not readable.
- Because of the many failed attempts of writhing with lipstick we ran out of lipstick when it came to shot 2B and so had to find another lipstick of similar colour.
- We also had to change the shot types due to space problems. However we did try and be consistent and kept both shots as over the shoulder medium shots.
Over all the day went well we had finished all that we had planned, although we encountered a few problems we have now learnt from them and in the near future before filming we will consider spacing and the public’s reactions to our filming.

As well as filming we are also in the process of constructing our ancillary texts which consist of a CD cover, CD back cover, CD inlays and a magazine advert to help promote the newly released CD. As a group we have split this task up where one member is constructing the front cover one the back and one the magazine advert and we decided to construct the inlays as a group. It is important we communicate our ideas between one and other to ensue the ancillary text looks like one and work effectively with one another.

Filming Day 2- (12/11/11)
After yesterday’s experience of losing footage and being forced to delete footage we decided to come prepared, we had bought a spear battery and a spear CD. We also asked our cast member to come earlier so the lighting would be batter. We met at Wembley Arena to film the actors/actresses with break dancers as part of our music video. We plan to use this as a memory (refer to storyboard). We then made our way to Harrow, where we shot discreetly in St.Ann's Shopping Centre and the local vicinity. Where we met a local police offer who granted us permission to film within the centre as long as we were quick and did not cause an inconvieance to other shoppers. We found getting permission to shoot a very difficult task and it took longer than anticipated. We are now a day behind schedule dude to difficulties faces on day one.

Filming Day 1- (11/11/11)
Today was our first day of filming so we went to Brent Cross Shopping Centre after school to film the first and last scene of our music video. However we were unaware that filming was not prohibited within the centre and were forced to erase all the footage shot by security guards. We were quite disheartened as this would change our storyboard ideas significantly.
After leaving the shopping centre, we decided to visit a retail park close by. Learning from our previous misfortune we asked permission to film from the store security, and were successful. The light conditions were not ideal - it had become quite dark and we were afraid the footage would not come out right. However we did shoot regardless. Towards the end the camra was not fastened to the tripod properly and had fallen so when I ejected the disk tray to check whether the disk was damaged or not. We found that the disk had been moved from the holder. When we switched the video camcorder we found that the footage had been wiped. As were shooting our final take the camera battery had also ran out. So we thanked the Next security guard and went home.

At the end of this day we concluded that despite the fact that we lost the footage, we had learned valuable lessons - we learnt that we were to ask permission from the centre beforehand. Another lesson that we learnt is that we should have carried a spare battery. We now knew how to film the footage with practice that we had on this day.

Production Log(9)
Having now completed our story board we are going to start filming tomorrow. We also photocopied the story board so each member of the group is a viable to have one making it easier on filming days.
Story board + Visual codes to be constructed (finial)
Storyboard This is the finial draft of out story board, we will use this to help create our music video as it shows the camra angle and movement as well as posining of charaters and props. It was important for us to have a well detailed pan as it will help save time when it comes to filming.

Album cover attempt 1
Photoshop steps:
- Paste Photo from folder onto Photoshop. (Some Photoshop versions do not accept just copy pasting picture from a folder. So you might need to print-screen and crop it)
- Name the layer : 'Original Picture'
Black & White Effect
- Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Make saturation 0
- Rename layer: 'Black & White Picture'
- Duplicate 'Black & White Picture' layer and rename (should have already been renamed) into 'B&W Pic Copy'. Set this new layer into Overlay.
- In the 'Black & White Picture' layer, use the smudge tool with opacity 77% and smudge around the person (sandhya) so the person is not smudged but the buildings are.
Crack effect
- Use this tutorial to help you make the cracks - http://wegraphics.net/blog/tutorials/photoshop/how-to-create-a-realistic-crack-effect-on-face/
- After using the previous tutorial, you should have the cracks as a brush. Use the brush to put cracks on the face and shirt

Camera Angle/Movement Test
This is some of this footage we shot in class in order to understand how the camera angle and camera movement would look, this was also a test to assess the quality of the equipment. Now that we have done this we are able to add greater detail in our story board creating a stronger plan.

Story board + Visual codes to be constructed (1)
This is our story board we started off with the narrative and have created a mock up of how the video will be scene by scene. However after showing this to our teacher we were told it is not complete and detailed enough so we will have to amend it by adding technical codes, camera movement, camera angle and any miese-en-scene.

Production Log(6)
Today we went to take pictures in Central London for the ancillary text (CD cover and magazine advert) we took a range of photos allowing our group to come to a decision on which one to use. We will now start to construct the CD cover and Magazine advertisement.
Narrative Breakdown of the composition on the video (1)
- Sandhya waits at a restaurant and guy doesn’t turn up
- She gets upset and leaves
- She sees him with someone else (hugging/kissing)
- Guy and other girl see her
- Sandhya leaves and guy walks after her trying to explain himself she jumps onto the train leaving him stranded at the station
- She starts crying
- And the song starts with a split screen of Sandhya, the guy and a person playing the piano. Sandhya is crying (close up), the guy is writing an apology letter. With cross cuts of Sandhya singing to the camera with a white background.
- Sandhya walks around various locations
- Cross cuts between guy and Sandhya walking and Sandhya singing
- Flashback (verse 2) – flashback of guy and Sandhya together [of what?]
- Guy writing letter (chorus after verse 2) and Sandhya watching TV and sees a romance scene which leads to another flashback where Sandhya and the guy are in a similar shot to the one on the TV screen. Back to Sandhya on the couch, who gets up and throws things off a table nearby.

CD Chosen Font
We were not happy with the fonts that we had initially tested. So we went online and found a website called 'www.dafont.com' to find a better more sophisticated font. We decided to use a font called 'Champagnes & Limousines' as we feel it fits our chosen genre more. Below is a sample of the font in bold (top) and in normal (bottom)
Plans/designs for ancillary texts
Magazine Advert Ideas
This is our chosen idea here we see the artist by a phone box. However in the plan there are some details missed out such as the artist name and the number one single it features.
So from the first plan we will be taking the details missed.
CD cover ideas
These are our CD cover ideas
This is our first idea for out CD cover. We tried to emphases the name of the album “still not broken” this shows two marts of the artist one being the broken side however the other she is whole.
This is our second CD cover idea in this cover we aim to have a close up shot of the artist and then add cracks to her face using effects on the computer.

Generic Codes of R&B/ Pop
Technical Codes:
- Flashbacks will be used to show memories of the couple and also reinforce the lyrics of the song.
- Two shots will be used throughout the video which makes it clear to the audience what the video is based on.
- Over the shoulder shot will be used at the beginning and the end of the video.
- There will be connections made with Sandhya & Zein to show their love- hugging, holding hands is usually what is shown in this specific genre.
- The mise en scene have many typical stereotypes which audiences expect to see when they know the genre of the song such as for R&B there might be Jewellery such as expensive rings.
- However in our music video we will possibly use stereotypes of pop and R&B genres such as have jewellery but very basic jewellery.
- The clothing will be very simple and will look quite sophisticated. For our female artist, we will probably have her wearing a simple dress with tights and boots or heels, leather jacket, and possibly a scarf. However for the males will be very casual. For example, jeans and a jumper. We will not use hoodies because this may give out the wrong message for the genre of our chosen song.
- To further enhance our message of the song and to represent the character effectively we will use dark colors and flashbacks will be in black and white. This can show the pessimistic/sad feelings of our female artist.
- Using bright colors may be avoided because our song is quite sad therefore will not link with our song well.
Generic Codes:

Mood Board + Themes that need to be incoraprated into the video
Love- this will be shown and Incorporated by the attraction between the male and female character. This theme will be further represented due to the iconic locations in the heart of London.
Anger- this will be shown through the use of camera angles such as close ups or medium shots where the audience are able to see the singer’s facial expressions.

Lyrical Analysis
Lyrical Analysis
‘Tell me you’re sorry’ is single sung and performed by Sandhya Acharya, an upcoming R&B artist. The song reflects the view that the ‘love’ is fading away thus the relationship is not what it seemed to be.
The opening verse in the song instantly reassures it is a love song and this can be seen through the song laid out in a form of a love letter. ‘Dear you, you really messed it up this time’ connotes the singer is talking about a relationship with a male and this can adhere R&B stereotypes as these videos are usually focused on male and female relationships. The repetition of ‘you’ emphasises who the song is aimed at. Already from the first few lines of the verse, many audience members can relate to the words of the lyrics due to personal experiences. ‘Mate you’re not worth the wait’ suggests that she was waiting for the right guy to come into her life and when he did she realised he was not the right one for her. ‘I won’t forgive or forget’ shows that the audience is gradually developing an understanding of the male protagonist was unfaithful towards her. This can show conventional stereotypes of R&B videos which are usually based around this topic. Furthermore, the artist can show a typical view of how women deal with men in a relationship. For example, ‘Here I go explaining to you, what you’ve done why it was wrong’ can highlight that she has perhaps done this more than once and it reinforces stereotypes of men that they’re always in the ‘wrong’.
The chorus makes the reader reinforce the meaning of the song as it is a part that is memorable. The beginning line of the chorus: ‘I don’t care, what you say’ implies that she actually does care and this is shown through the alternate tonal shifts, her emotions are conflicting. The thought of love is one that leaves you unsure and confused towards your emotions. There is also emotive language used in ‘you’re under my skin and I swear I will never let you back in’ which can show she still has a sense of passion for him but it is not enough for him to accept. The lyrics also show that the artist believes that in many relationships it is usually the male character that is in the wrong. The male character and her feelings towards him have left her physically and mentally insecure. This is shown in ‘You don’t deserve me you’re not worth this I won’t make amends’. The representation of Sandhya we see in this chorus reflects the stereotypical representation of relationships in R&B music videos. It can also be argued that she maybe actually wants to be with him. This is shown in the repetition of the line ‘Tell me you’re sorry write me you’re sorry’ which makes the audience remember this part of the song. The emphasis of the word ‘sorry’ indicates that an apology, just being a simple word can change everything in a relationship. In a form, this doesn’t only relate to love relationships between a male and female but in fact relates to a wider audience.
In the next verse, is the artist signifying herself through the line ‘I see you writing on the envelope dear me it reads’ which can show she is not going to open her feelings but it signifies her body as the letter signifies her emotions inside. We also hear from Sandhya in this verse that she is physically broken through the emotive language: ‘You’ve broken me’. In the middle 8, there is a conventional representation shown of female artists where they want to ‘Plan my revenge but you aint worth my time’. This indicates two different meanings. Firstly it can convey that she is moving on however it can also show she is scared to face him. She says ‘Burning the pictures all of the letters’ which is a personification of herself that connotes she is getting rid of physical memories in order to disguise her emotions. To conclude, the lyrics of the song give a representation of stereotypical teenage girls’ emotions when it comes to dealing with the hardship of a relationship.

Production Log(4)
A few weeks have passed and we have still not heard anything form ‘Asia Bryant’’ and so we carried on with our search to find a piece of copy write free music which we could image making a music video for. We looked to other websites and asked our friends if they had any sudgestions. It was here where we found out our friend Sandhya Acharya had made her own song and she shas kindly said we can use it for our coursework. Seeing as it was her song we asked her if she would like to be i in the video and she said yes. This was very fortunate as it has saved us time looking and asking people if they would like to be in our video.
